Coinciding with Bloomberg’s National Salt Reduction initiative to reduce salt intake for New Yorkers, Heinz Ketchup is implementing their two-year-old plan to reduce the sodium in their famous recipe by 15 percent. The new ketchup will hit the shelves this June. While this will definitely have a positive health effect, some New Yorkers are upset about the change in their beloved “tried and true” ketchup recipe that has turned Heinz into the ketchup giant. Heinz is hoping that the healthier version will not face the same opposition and failure as New Coke did in 1985.
