BNEI SHAARE ZION HOSTS HALACHIC FINANCE WEEKEND

On the weekend of Shabbat Parashat Shelah, congregants of Bnei Shaare Zion were joined by the Bet Havaad Leinyane Mishpat for a special educational program devoted to the Jewish laws on topics related to finance. Led by Hacham Yaakov Ben-Haim and hosted by Rabbi Dovid Grossman, Rosh Bet Havaad, the participants explored the modern financial world through the lenses of the Hoshen Mishpat section of the Shulhan Aruch, and how intricate halachic principles are applied to everyday practices. Throughout Shabbat, Rabbi Grossman discussed various intriguing topics such as wills and estates, real estate, short sales and foreclosures, examining them in light of the relevant halachot. The Shabbat program was an informative and inspirational experience for all, and based on the feedback, may be the first of many such weekends.

The program continued on Sunday morningwith a well-attended shiur at the Shaare Zion Torah Center, in the presence of Rabbi Meir Yedid and Rabbi Moshe Arking. The lively discussions and informative insights into everyday business dealings left people with a greater realization and appreciation of how the Torah expects us to conduct ourselves in the marketplace.

Last summer, the Bet Havaad Leinyane Mishpat launched an exciting summer Hoshen Mishpat study program for the Deal community. The program took place at Congregation Ohel Simha, with the participation and support of Rabbi Shemuel Choueka, Rabbi Eli Mansour, Rabbi Raymond Beyda, Rabbi David Sutton and other distinguished rabbis. Hacham Asher Hatchuel honored the attendees with an in-depth lecture on the subject of competition in the marketplace.

The summer program aroused interest in an ongoing weekly shiur (class) at Ohel Simha coordinated by Rabbi Haim Arking, and sponsored by Jeremy Sultan in the merit of his father, Charles R Sultan. The weekly program includes a lively presentation by Rabbi Avrohom Bookman, author of The Lost Scotch, followed by a shiur with Rabbi Haim Nehmad on Shulhan Aruch Hoshen Mishpat. Throughout the year, the questions that arose and the answers that were received highlighted the fantastic resource which this program offers the community.

The Bet Havaad will soon commence this year’s Deal community summer program, expecting an even bigger turnout and more enthusiastic attendance than last year.
