Jewish Life in Iran

It was a stormy day, Erev Hanukah, when the Sephardic Women’s Charity Club (SWCC) committee met with Nancy Sutton from the Medstar Community Cancer Center to present a check from the SWCC. The women of SWCC felt it was appropriate to take the charity collected from the SWCC and donate it to a cause that would benefit other women in our community. As they toured the Cancer Center, they realized that the facility is actually a gift to every mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend in our community. When they left, they didn’t feel the gloomy rainy day, and instead felt the exhilarating sensation of hope in their hearts.
Sephardic Women’s Charity Club works under the motto, “Together we women can make a difference”. They saw this firsthand when they met with the Cancer Center’s incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated staff, which offers the latest information and expertise in cancer management. Besides for running a unique hair salon and boutique, library and resource room, and integrative therapy room, the Community Cancer Center matches patients with individuals who have gone through similar experiences, providing much needed moral support.
The Center offers new programs and events each month. A typical month’s calendar includes lectures by top physicians, free cancer screenings, exercise and yoga classes, nutritional cooking classes, laughter therapy sessions, and so much more.
